Mountain itineraries include two different regions, the Apuan Alps and the Appenini
Each of the two areas is reachable in just one hour cycling from Lucca
The marble mountains of Carrara (Apuan Alps), from where the ancient Romans and then Michelangelo took the white marble to their statues, temples and masterpieces, are rich of challenging itineraries and epic climbs.
In full summer the mountains appear to be snow-covered because of the bright white of the marble……stunning!
The Appenini mountains, including the legendary Passo dell’Abetone and Passo delle Radici, were crossed many times by the “Giro d’Italia”. Many famous chapters of cycling history have been written by Gino Bartali, Fausto Coppi and others just on these climbs
